Information for New Clients

Welcome to my counselling practice

Information for new clients

Our appointments are typically on the same time and day each week and last 50 minutes, and arriving a minute or two early is fine.

If visiting my practice in Pondtail Park, you are welcome to park on the drive if it is clear.

Please note that although I offer counselling services, your medical care is still the responsibility of your GP.

Once you start therapy, we are contracting to work together on a weekly basis and the appointment slot is allocated to you.  It is essential to the therapeutic relationship that you regularly attend your weekly sessions.  If you cannot attend a session for any reason, please inform me as soon as possible.

I am a member of the BACP; I carry insurance; I am under regular professional supervision and work to BACP Ethical Standards.

Confidentiality is important within therapy, but if I feel you or others are in imminent danger of harm, then I may need to break confidentiality, ideally after discussion with you.

If I cannot help you, I will try to refer you to alternative therapists; however, if a referral is made to another counsellor, then any therapeutic work will be contracted with the other counsellor directly; and I can take no responsibility, liability or involvement in such arrangements.

Payment terms

Payment of fees is part of the basic therapeutic contract and is a responsibility of the Client.  Payment is expected in cash.  Payment is required at the beginning or end of each session.

Electronic payment may be offered, but is required to be pre-paid ‘on account’, (ideally in a block of sessions e.g. 4 or 6 sessions to minimise admin effort).  If electronic payment is agreed.  Payment must be made at least 24 hours prior to the session, and notification of the payment sent by email or text specifying the amount, the payment date and the reference attached to the payment e.g. payment for John Doe’s 4th session might have reference “JD#4”.

Late cancellation charges

I try to be flexible regarding late cancellation charges, as life has its challenges for all of us and I don’t like to be un-necessarily ‘punitive’; however, if an appointment is booked, then clearly I am making a commitment to be present and therefore I am forgoing opportunities to arrange other things to do with my time or book in other Clients.  My time is valuable to me and perishable, especially evening and weekend slots.  So if a cancellation is made less than 48 hours before the session then I reserve the right to charge the full fee.  If multiple or regular late cancellations occur, then the 48 hour notice period is increased to 7 days.  All outstanding fees must be paid prior to booking the next session unless agreed otherwise.

If you have a complaint, then please contact me directly.

I look forward to working with you.
